Building Bridges for Peace: Skål International supports World Tourism Day 2024
As we approach the 27th of September, Skål International is proud to join the celebration of World Tourism Day 2024, themed ‘Tourism and Peace’.
As a leading entity in the tourism sector, with professionals spread across the globe, we recognise the value of tourism as a bridge for peace and understanding between nations and cultures.
This year, World Tourism Day is celebrated under the theme ‘Tourism and Peace’, emphasising the importance of peace as an integrative element of tourism. Peace allows people to thrive in a positive environment, promoting dialogue and cooperation among communities.
According to UN Tourism, international tourism reached 97% of pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of 2024, with an estimated 285 million tourists travelling internationally. This near-complete recovery underscores the resilience of the sector and its capacity to unite people across borders.
Tourism is not only an economic driver but also a powerful tool for fostering peace and international cooperation. As highlighted by Annette Cardenas, President of Skål International: “At Skål International, we firmly believe in the power of tourism to build bridges and promote peace. We are committed to continuing our work together to create a future where tourism is a force for good, uniting people and strengthening our global communities”.
Skål International boasts nearly 12,500 professional members in more than 300 clubs across over 84 countries. This extensive presence underscores our global reach and influence in promoting responsible and peaceful tourism.
We invite all our members and the global community to join us in celebrating World Tourism Day 2024, and to work together to promote responsible and peaceful tourism that benefits everyone.
